- Important -- Restarting your system
- ===========================================================================
- The Express Setup program may prompt you to restart your computer after you
- have installed Express. If you are prompted but do not restart your computer
- Express will not run properly.
-
- The prompt to restart occurs when certain files need to be updated or
- require registration.

- Upgrading from Earlier Versions of Express
- ===========================================================================
- There is a QuickStart Guide for Upgrading Customers in HTML Help format
- (Upgrade.chm) with details about upgrading to version 6.2.
-
- ** Upgrading from Version 6.1 **
- If you are upgrading from version 6.1, you can simply install version 6.2
- and the Setup program will take care of the upgrade. See the QuickStart
- Guide for Upgrading Customers for details.
-
- ** Upgrading from Version 6.0 **
- If you are upgrading from version 6.0, you can install version 6.2 and the
- Setup program will take care of the upgrade, including uninstalling
- Express version 6.0. See the QuickStart Guide for Upgrading Customers for
- details.
-
- ** Upgrading from Version 5.x **
- If you are upgrading from a 5.x version, the upgrade process requires your
- existing 5.x version.
-
- If you are upgrading from version 5.x to version 6.2 do not uninstall your
- existing version of Express 5.0 or 5.01. The earlier version is necessary
- in order to convert database information and complete the upgrade process.
- For detailed information, see the QuickStart Guide for Upgrading Customers,
- available from the Start menu, in the Documentation folder of Express Software
- Manager 6.2. You can also navigate to the file using Explorer and double-click
- on Upgrade.chm.

- Cancelling out of 6.2 Setup After Prompt to Uninstall
- Makes Subsequent Install of 6.2 Unable to Migrate Settings
- ===========================================================================
- If you are upgrading from version 6.0 you will be prompted to uninstall
- your existing version. You must answer "yes" to upgrade to 6.2.
-
- If you answer "Yes" to this prompt and then cancel out of Setup before 6.2
- is installed, you will not be able to use the 6.2 Setup later to upgrade
- your 6.0 installation.

- Setup Fails on Workstations with SQL Client Tools Installed
- ==============================================================================
- The Express Setup program cannot successfully install Express Administrative
- Console on a computer that has SQL Client Tools (but not SQL Server or MSDE)
- installed. The Express Setup program attempts to install MSDE during the
- install of Administative Console. This MSDE install fails when SQL Client Tools
- are already installed on a workstation.
-
- If you have SQL Client Tools installed without SQL Server or MSDE on the same
- workstation where you want to install Express Administrative Console, uninstall
- SQL Client Tools before installing Express Software Manager. You can reinstall
- SQL Client Tools after Express is installed.
-
-
- ==============================================================================
- Metered Suite Serial Number data is lost During Upgrade
- ==============================================================================
- Metered Suites (previously called "Suites") will lose serial number data when
- you upgrade to Express version 6.2. If you have suite serial numbers configured,
- you will need to reenter them after upgrading.
-
- Note: In previous versions of Express these suite serial numbers were only
- available in Express Console. As of Express 6.2 they can also be seen in reports
- (Application Serial Numbers Report).
-
-
- ==============================================================================
- Database Update Fails When Processing Clients Using
- Double-Byte Character Sets
- ==============================================================================
- If you install the Express client on a workstation that is configured to use
- a double-byte character set, subsequent database updates will fail when the
- library files for that machine are processed.
-
- Express does not currently support double-byte character sets or machines
- configured to use those character sets.
-
-
- ==============================================================================
- Setup Cannot Create SQL database Without "sa" Login or access to
- another account with privileges to create and modify a database
- ==============================================================================
- The Express Setup program requires a connection to SQL Server using the "sa"
- Login ID with no password. If your SQL Server is not configured to allow this,
- the Setup program will prompt you to provide a password or another account
- with similar privileges. If you are not able to provide an alternate account,
- the program cannot create and initialize the Express database. Check the
- MSDE.log file found in \Program Files\Express Metrix\ESM\Express Shared\Logs
- to see if the database was successfully created.
-
- If the database was not created successfully, a database that uses
- a username and password other than the default can be created from within
- Administrative Console, using the Library Wizard. See the online documentation
- for details.
-
- Note: Express requires a database that uses SQL authentication.
-
-
- ==============================================================================
- Custom Labels do not Change with Upgrade
- ==============================================================================
- If you upgrade from version 6.0 or an earlier version, the Custom Labels will
- not change from the defaults of "Custom1", "Custom2", etc. To set these labels
- to match the new defaults in the Exuser.ini file, click the Reset button in
- the Edit Custom Labels dialog. See the online documentation for more
- information.

- Express Client on Terminal Server Fails to ID Thin clients
- ===============================================================================
- The Express client may fail to identify Windows thin clients, especially if
- the clients are assigned different names at each logon.
-
-
- ===============================================================================
- Application Libraries and Novell
- ===============================================================================
- If you plan to create your application library on a Novell server:
-
- * Any Windows XP machines running the Express client or Administrative
- Console must use the Novell Client for Windows, version 4.83 pt2
- or later.
-
- * Any Windows 2000 machines running Express Administrative Console
- that is using the Novell Client for Windows, version 4.83 must use
- version 4.83 pt2 or later of the client.
-
- Note: This version of the Novell Client is intended for Windows XP, 2000, and
- NT.
-
-
- ===============================================================================
- Converted Applications Lose Serial Numbers
- ===============================================================================
- Any application that has been configured with serial numbers and subsequently
- is converted to a version of another application will lose those serial numbers.
- You will need to reinput the serial numbers on the Serial Numbers tab of the
- Application Properties dialog box.

- Uninstall of Express Library Manager Service Fails
- ================================================================================
- If you attempt to uninstall Express Library Manager service while it is in the
- process of updating or exporting the database, the uninstall will hang.
-
- To complete the uninstall of the service, disable the service using Control
- Panel, reboot the workstation, and rerun the Setup program, choosing to uninstall
- the service.
-
-
- ================================================================================
- Creation of Express Service Account Fails with "Invalid Password"
- ================================================================================
-
- On Windows XP, if you have a local account user name that is the same as the
- domain user name, you may not be able to successfully enter the user name and
- password while configuring the Express services account during setup. If you do,
- in some cases you will get an error saying that the password was invalid.
-
- To get around this, leave both user name and password blank during setup and
- configure the services account after the install is done.
